The bottom half of a wall was removed for the drying process.

Water Damage Wall Removal

Drywall is a very porous material. So when water damage occurs, it is very likely that your walls will sop up a good amount of water. When it comes to drywall, it is always safer to remove the wet section and replace it with new, unaffected drywall. That is what was happening here for this customer.

Extreme fire damage in a small home.

Damage to the floor inside from water that came in from the garage area.

Flood Water Entered Through Garage

When storms get bad enough, the damage they cause can spread from one area to another. This customer had water damage in their garage, and it spread from there to the inside of their house very easily. So our teams got equipment placed quickly and started the drying process as fast as possible to keep the damage from getting any worse.

Water damage and pet mess left on the basement floor by previous tenants.

Large Mess Left After Tenants Moved Out

Landlords see all kinds of damage when it comes to their rental properties. This is especially so after tenants move out of the home. This particular landlord had to deal with not only a water damage problem in the basement but also a large amount of pet waste that was left in the basement as well. They made the decision to call us to take care of both of those issues, and we are happy to be Here to Help.

Ceiling collapsed and mold on walls after storm damage.

Major Damage After Bad Weather

When storm damage occurs, you never know just how bad it will end up being. This house was horribly damaged by bad weather. The ceiling collapsed from water and other forces. There was a debris mess left on the floor. Eventually, the water from the storm created a mess of mold on the wall. This looks like an impossible challenge, but our teams were certainly up for the task!

A large amount of water on the floor came through a basement window.

Water Damage Through Basement Window

When water builds up outside your home, it’s not uncommon for it to try and make its way into your property by any means necessary. That is what happened to this customer. Water built up in the yard near a basement window and eventually poured in and covered the floor. Luckily, there was no carpet in their basement, so it was just a matter of calling us to extract the excess water and then place equipment to try the rest. It’s just one of the many ways we’re Here to Help.

Commercial break room with water damage and debris damage all over the floor.

Water Damage Ceiling Debris

When water damage occurs, there is always a risk of there being more than just a wet area on the floor or on the ceiling. This is a prime example of that. After water damage affected the ceiling, the tiles collapsed and ended up on the floor. As soon as we were called into the job and saw what had happened, we knew that this was going to be more than just a dry-out. The debris would need to be cleaned up so everything could be dried thoroughly, and that’s exactly what we did!

Standing water on the cement basement floor.

Tree Falling into Residential Property

We have seen quite a bit of storm damage from trees after the storms in June. This is an image of one of the jobs with some of the worst damage. Ceiling materials have collapsed into the home creating a huge mess on top of the rest of the damage from the storm. So we were grateful that the customer trusted us to come in and get the property cleaned and restored!

Saturated Carpet

We know that there are times when you will experience water damage, and you’ll feel that you can handle the damage yourself. We have the equipment and the training to dry damage like this is a way that is thorough, quick, and will help you avoid secondary damage.

House almost completely hidden by a tree that fell on it during a storm.

Where is the House?

Can you see the house? We can!

Tile floor wet from water damage

Water Mitigation to Protect Basement Tile

The amount of water on this floor doesn’t look too terrible if you’re just looking at it. However, there are things that come with damage like this that need to be taken care of to avoid secondary damage. You could soak up all the water off of the surface, but if you don’t get the area dry with fans and other drying equipment, you could find yourself dealing with mold under the tiles later.

Damage to floors and walls after sewage damage.

The Reality of Sewage Damage

Sewage damage isn’t always something you can mop up off the floor and cover the smell up with a candle. Sewage damage affects subflooring, trim, drywall, and anything it touches with water and other types of damage that can be a huge problem if not taken care of correctly. You can count on our teams to take care of sewage the way it should be done.

Tile and wall damaged from water softener leak

Water Softener Damage Through Wall

Water softeners are great to have in your home, but they can cause a fair amount of damage. The water softener on the other side of this wall leaked and caused damage to the drywall, the trim, and the flooring in this separate room. It’s not the first time we’ve seen this happen, so we were happy to come in and help with the cleanup and restoration.

Water Extraction - Flooded Basement

Water extraction is a process specifically used to remove as much excess water as possible before the fans and dehumidifiers are placed. By removing the excess water, you give the area a better chance at drying before there is any secondary damage.

That is why board-ups are important; it keeps the elements from harming the damaged property any further. When you successfully prevent secondary damage, you have a better chance of making the damage to the home, “Like it never even happened.”

Air movers placed and drying in a warehouse.

Commercial Damage - Water Damage

This warehouse was hit with some water damage, creating the possibility that there would be damage to the items being stored in the area. Our teams were sent to do the mitigation and ensure that the property and the contents could not be further damaged by the water.

Grease Fire

Grease fires are scary, dangerous, and can happen anywhere that there is grease involved in the cooking process. We have the training and the skills to be able to clean and restore all kinds of fire damage, including grease fires.

So keep us in mind if you ever have a grease fire on your property!

Kitchen floor during deodorizing and cleaning.

Pet Odor - Cleaning and Deodorizing

Odor removal can sometimes be a little more strenuous than just cleaning a carpet or lighting a candle. Odors can sometimes be absorbed into the very tiles or carpet padding, and it can be incredibly tough to get rid of. This is especially true with pet odors. So if you find yourself in a situation where your house smells horribly and there’s nothing you can do, please reach out to us. We’ll do our best to make it, “Like it never even happened.”

Tiled floor damaged by water pushed back through the washing machine into the laundryroom.

Laundry Room Flood

It’s not completely unexpected for water damage to happen in a laundry room. The damage here was caused by a water backup that resulted in water being pushed out of the clothes washing machine. We were called to make sure that the excess water was extracted and the affected areas were dry. We were just happy that the clients knew that we are Here to Help.

Client garage has mold on the lower portion of the wall from unnoticed water damage.

Garage Mold

A garage is a part of any home that can frequently fall victim to water damage. Just like inside the home, it is important to get to the water damage before it leads to mold and/or other secondary damage.

If you feel like your garage might have a mold problem, please don’t hesitate to contact us for the remediation process.

Basement floor from storage room into the hallway covered in water.

Basement Water Damage

It’s never an easy situation to be in when your basement floods. That is why we are here. We will extract excess water, dry out the area that was affected, and then if needed we can clean and restore any of the extra content as well.

We do our best to be the team that makes your damage seem, “Like it never even happened.”

Roof with a tarp covering a hole from tree damage.

Tree and Water Damage

Situations like these are why we specialize in storm damage cleanup and restoration as well as water, fire, and other damage. We know that damage from storm debris can cause damage externally which leads to damage internally (the secondary damage that we keep talking about).

Storms are common this time of year, and if you find that your home or business had experienced damage from them, please call and see what we can do for you!

Image of a basement wall made of wood and soaked in water.

Water Damage to Basement Wall

The wall in this basement absorbed water from a damage situation. The paneling here was a wood material and if the owners of the house hadn’t noticed it, they could have ended up with mold. However, we were called and were able to help the client. We are happy to be Here to Help®.

Damage to the ceiling in an attic from fire and smoke.

Fire in the Attic

Attics are an area of a home that sometimes get overlooked when it comes to maintenance. That is why it is scary when something like this happens within that space. With all of the building materials (wood, drywall, insulation) that can be found in an attic there is more than enough kindling to get a fire started and keep it fed. So keep an eye on that space and limit the exposure to fire starters.

If you do face damage, just remember that we have the teams, equipment, and skills to clean and restore your property!

Storm and tree damage to roof

Tree Damage to Roof

Metal buildings are strong structures, and they are generally pretty resilient to the elements. However, there are just some things that metal can’t withstand - among those things are trees. So if you find that your property is damaged from falling trees, please don’t hesitate to call us. We are Here to Help®.

The cleaning stages of a job after sup-pump failure.

Sump-Pump Failure

Sump-pumps can be the source of a lot of damage, and that damage can come out of nowhere sometimes. One bad storm and one malfunctioning moment can mean crazy amounts of water damage.

If you find yourself in this situation, just know that you can call us for the cleaning and restoration of your property.

Pipe Burst in the Ceiling

Pipe Burst

One small problem with a pipe can lead to a much bigger problem. When this pipe burst, it soaked the drywall, and drywall is very good at holding onto moisture. The only way to really dry this area completely was to pull the affected sections of drywall and replace them. By the end of the job the water was dried, mold damage was avoided, and the customer was happy.

Smoke damage from dryer fire on ceiling.

Dryer Fire

We’ve seen jobs like this before. It can be really scary when an appliance meant to make your life easier causes so much damage. It happens though, and fire damage really isn’t a joke. We just hope that you know you can count on us for the cleaning and restoration of your fire damage.

We are here to deal with the water damage and to make sure that everything affected is dry so you can avoid mold. We do what we can to make simple jobs like these feel, “Like it never even happened.”

Mold on the surface of a door in a building with no residents.

Moldy Door

We talk frequently about how the level of moisture within your home can become a problem if it isn’t monitored, and this is why. This home had not been lived in for a while, and when the moisture levels got too high with nobody around to adjust it, mold like this began to appear throughout the property. Hopefully, something like this never happens to you. If it does though, you can always reach out to your local SERVPRO®! We’re Here to Help®!

Mold on home support beams from excess moisture.

Mold Damage

The support beams shown here show signs of really advanced mold damage. If you find damage like this in your home after water damage, storm damage, or high humidity, it is imperative to reach out to a professional. Do whatever you can to make sure the damage is not affecting the structural safety of your home and the safety of the people within your home.

Carpet lifted for the drying process

Carpet Damage

It is important, when dealing with water damaged carpet, to understand that the surface water damage is only part of the issue. Water seeps through the carpet, into the padding below, and in some situations into the base which can be wood or cement depending on the building. So it’s important to reach out to a cleaning and restoration company like SERVPRO® to help you dry the carpet carefully and completely.

Images of our team helping to apply disinfectant to the Peoria Police Department Vehicles.

Applying Disinfectant to Support the Peoria Police Department

We were more than thrilled to have the opportunity that we did today with the Peoria Police Department. We applied disinfectant to so many of their vehicles, and we had a great time helping out! Thank you to the Peoria Police Department for all that you do and for trusting our teams! We hope you all stay healthy and safe!

Water, smoke, and heat damage to the walls and the trim of an originally white room.

Wet and Dry Damage

It’s strange to think that having fire damage on your property can go hand in hand with water damage, but it definitely does! When firefighters put out a fire, the water extinguishing the fire soaks into the porous items and areas within the property. However, this is the kind of damage that is bittersweet - because, without the water damage, fire damage would definitely get much worse!

Ceiling hole from water damage

Holey Ceiling

When water damage on a roof or in an attic goes unnoticed, this is what it can lead to. The ceiling in this room is warped to the point of caving in, which can be dangerous to anyone in that room. That is why the client’s called their local SERVPRO® for the cleanup and the restoration of their problem!

Hole in a wall from water damage.

You're Going to Need Some Recon

The frustrating thing about water damage is not just that everything gets wet, but that sometimes there are areas in the house that fall apart or need to be removed due to the water damage. When that happens you can be left with unsightly damage. The good news is that we have team members who can do the reconstruction for you!

Image of damage from drain water back-up.

Drain Back-Up

When a drain malfunctions, there’s no telling how bad the damage can get. So if you find that a drain in your basement (like the one shown here) or in a bathtub or anywhere else is having problems, please get it taken care of by a plumber as soon as possible. If you experience damage, call us for the cleaning and restoration. We’re Here to Help®.

Image of soot covered kitchen cupboards.

Secondary Damage

Secondary damage is probably one of the most tedious parts of experiencing fire damage because anywhere that the smoke can travel to, it most likely will. It’s messy. It’s stinky. Quite frankly, it can pose health issues, too. So when you have a fire, remember that we can help clean and restore both the primary and secondary damage to your property. We’ll do whatever we can to make it, “Like it never even happened.”

Image of a floor and room during recon.

Recon

What you see here is a dry floor and wall. Now that the property is dry, it is time to get things put back to normal. Instead of calling in a completely different company and team, you can depend on SERVPRO® for the reconstruction of your property.

It’s just another way we are Here to Help®.

Fire and water damage to some door trim.

Fire & Water Damage Combo

When there is a fire in a home or business, it’s usually the first form of damage you think of. However, when the fire is being extinguished, there is a certain amount of water damage that occurs as well. The image here shows how the combination of fire and water damage might appear. The fire caused the smoke and soot damage on the trim, and as the fire was being put out, the water caused the paint to warp and flake off as well.

This is the kind of damage combo that our team is trained to deal with, and we are happily Here to Help®.

Supporting Our Communities Medical Professionals

There’s no denying the hold that COVID-19 has over everyone right now. It’s affecting those who are sick with it and their loved ones. It’s all over the news and social media. We know there’s no real way to avoid it, so we’re trying to bring a little happiness to those on the frontlines.

We’re partnered with two pizza places in our area - Monical’s Pizza of Pekin and Rosatti’s Pizza in North Pekin - to bring the medical professionals in our area lunch. We want to make sure they feel appreciated in this chaotic time. We hope that everyone else will be willing to take a moment and thank those who work in healthcare. They’re definitely embodying the SERVPRO® goal of being Here to Help®!

Electrical wiring in a wall charred from an electrical fire.

Electrical Fire

Electrical fires are not a joke. They are dangerous and unpredictable. There are few things out there that can lead to both electrocution and varying degrees of burns. So take caution when you plug appliances into outlets, whether you leave them plugged in for a while or not. You wouldn’t want to find yourself in a similar situation to this one.

Fire damaged room; everything is completely black and charred.

Extreme Fire Damage

We deal with both small and large fire damage here at SERVPRO®. This is just an example of the larger damages that we get called out to every once in a while. Situations like this can be devastating, and while it may seem impossible when you look at it, you can count on our teams to come in and do everything we can to make this massive loss, “Like it never even happened.”

Hole in ceiling from water damage

Broken Fridge Line

It’s strange to think that a little thing like a broken refrigerator line could cause damage to this extent. It is possible though, and the image shown here is proof. Water from the broken line upstairs leaked into the basement and caused a whole mess of problems. So remember to pay attention to your appliances; especially those that could lead to damage like this.

List of spots in your home to sanitize frequently

Spots to Hit on a Frequent Basis

There are some spots in your home that see a lot more contact than other spots. We may be in a bit of a health crisis right now, but the spots listed in the image above should get attention all the time. These are high traffic areas of your home (or business) that can always benefit from a little attention from some disinfectant or a sanitizing wipe!

Health Tips for Kids

It's important to make sure that kids understand what they can do to help stop the spread of germs during these trying times. The circumstances that lead to this damage isn’t important. What is important is the fact that this is NOT something you would want a client walking into if you were a business owner. Tile ceiling is bowing from the weight of water damage.

Bowing Ceiling

Ceilings can only withstand so much damage, especially when the ceiling is a tile type ceiling like the one shown here. When water damage gets too heavy, it will begin to bow, and eventually, it is likely to collapse. If you find yourself dealing with damage like this, call your local SERVPRO®. We are Here to Help®.

Mold on the backside of the wall of a residential property.

Mold - Hidden

Mold is easy to miss when it hides within and behind the walls of your home or business. It’s not often that you have access to the backsides of the walls to see what’s going on. That being said, if you are worried this could be something happening on your property, please reach out to your local SERVPRO® for the mold remediation.

Mold buildup on concrete basement wall.

Mold on Wall

The image shown here is of a moldy basement wall. This may look like something caused by severe damage, but something like this could begin to form in any basement where the moisture levels are too high. Keep a lookout for spots like this forming in your basement, or else you could be the one facing a moldy situation!

Image of ceiling covered in mold cause by fire sprinklers

Moldy Ceiling

This is the result of the same damage from a previous post. It is important for commercial buildings that have been closed for business to be maintained. The unattended sprinkler system in this building was set off and the entire building was unknowingly covered in water, which when left alone, lead to mold.

If you ever find yourself in this predicament, please reach out to your local SERVPRO®.

Image of damaged carpet and a wall with the trim removed.

Sump-Pump - Damage that Spreads

Sump-pump failure can lead to big trouble. As shown in this photo, the water escaped the sump-pump room and made its way into a carpeted room of the house. Luckily we were able to clean the carpet and everything else affected!

Carpeted room. Drywall removed for the drying process.

Water - Commercial Building

This office had a pipe break and water got everywhere. Due to the type of business that was done in the building, it was important that it was dealt with fast and efficiently. So the people who work in the building made the move to call us for the cleaning and restoration.

Wall sprayed by internal sprinkler system is covered in mold because the building was closed.

Mold - Empty Commercial

Closed or abandoned buildings don’t always get the attention or maintenance that they need. If they are not properly monitored, situations like this can occur. You are looking at damage left after the building sprinkler system went off in a building that was closed down. The water wasn’t cleaned up, and mold started to grow in every place that was left wet.

Don’t underestimate the damage water can do if it isn’t cleaned up. Secondary damage is easy to avoid if you are proactive about water damage.

Images of air movers and dehumidifies in a building for a dry-out.

Pipe Burst

This empty house was hit with water damage that did damage in multiple rooms. When our team came to the scene they knew they were going to need to focus hard on getting the floors dried. Luckily, it was possible for the techs to get underneath the floorboards and get the base of the floor dried. In doing this they helped to reduce the risk of further damage from mold.

Water damage is never fun, but it’s a little easier to handle when you know you’ve got a team like SERVPRO® in your corner.

Image of air movers drying out an empty room with wood floors.

The Angles Matter

Sometimes the equipment that is laid throughout your property after you face damage can seem like a nuisance. However, the clunky-looking machines are there for a very specific purpose, and they are placed in the positions they are for optimal drying results. If you are ever curious about the process of laying the machines, feel free to ask the team members on your job. They are more than happy to explain it!

Soaked ceiling tiles on wet office floor. Water damage in office building.

Water Trouble in the Office

This office building was wracked with water damage recently. Water ended up filling up office and storage areas alike. In this particular room, you can see that the carpet is soaked and there are parts of the ceiling on the floor. There were plenty more rooms like this. Water damage of this magnitude has the potential to slow the way a business runs. That is why the client made the choice to call us and get the water dried out and the building restored by our teams.

Smoke damage coming up from a vent to the second floor bathroom

Secondary Fire Damage

We’ve talked about secondary fire damage before, but this image is a good example of how far it can spread throughout a building. This bathroom vent had been spitting out smoke and soot from a fire that happened on the floor below. This happened with other vents in the house. We hope that images like these will make it clear that secondary damage can be just as consuming as primary fire damage.

Image of the source of the damage: a burst pipe.

Busted Pipe

When a pipe bursts for whatever reason, there are varying degrees to the damage that can be done to the pipe. Sometimes pipes will split into just a small crack in the metal. Sometimes they will split in a way that looks like a compressed tube of crescent rolls will. On the far end of the spectrum, you will have a burst like the one here which looks like explosives were involved. With a break this severe, this commercial building was soaked in multiple rooms. That is why they called for our teams here at SERVPRO® to do the water cleanup and restoration.

Image of a kitchen with white cupboards and light colored counters. All of it is completely covered in smoke and soot damage.

It's not supposed to be that color...

One of the most conspicuous forms of damage is fire/smoke damage, and the image here is substantial proof. The clean, white interior of this kitchen is a completely different color thanks to the secondary damage of the fire that took place. If you find yourself dealing with a think layer of black soot, please don’t hesitate to call us. Our teams are more than happy to come in and clean the soot from your home and to bring in the contents of your home and restore what we can here in our facility.

Image of air-movers placed in their dry-out positions for a job.

A Visual of the Equipment

It’s hard to know what to expect when water mitigation and dry-out are started on your property. This particular commercial property had a good amount of equipment placed. As seen here, there were air-movers (the small green machines) and dehumidifiers (the large machine) in this room. These are common machines to see during a water job. If you have questions about the equipment, your technicians will be happy to explain what they are and what they do during the job!

Outside view of a board-up of the window of a house after fire damage.

Board-Up

The board-up you see here is one that helps to keep the inside of the home from any further damage. It is not uncommon to see a board-up like this after a fire or after storm damage. The board-up helps keep the elements out of the house while our teams finish the restoration process on the inside. This is an important step in making it possible for our teams to make the damage, “Like it never even happened.”

Tiles removed from office ceiling to get access to the water damage in the ceiling.

Ceiling Damage - Commercial

It’s important to know how to get to the source of the issue when it comes to water damage. When that damage is in the ceiling the only real way to get to it is to go through it. In this office building, it was a little easier because our teams were able to pop the ceiling tiles off and get them out of the way. Just remember, whether the source is more or less accessible, you can always count on SERVPRO® to make the water damage feel “Like it never even happened.”

Two photos; room damaged from fire and from water, and the image of fire damaged debris pulled from the building.

Building Damage After Fire

These photos show the true two damages when a building catches fire. There is the initial damage from the fire, and there is the water damage that comes afterward. Luckily, our teams at SERVPRO® can clean and restore both types of damage.

The source of the fire, a car burnt to a crisp which lead to extenuating damage.

Car Fire Becomes Garage Fire

It’s not uncommon for garage fires to start, and in this client’s case, it was a car that did the starting. The image shown here is an example of how bad the car burned and a reminder that you should always check that nothing flammable is left in your car. If you do, you might just end up needing to make a call to SERVPRO®.

Storms damaged a garage with falling tree branches. The gutter and multiple shingles were knocked down.

Garage Damage from Fallen Tree

Fallen limbs can be a real hazard, and not just as they are falling. In the image here you can see the damage left by a large branch that fell during a storm. It fell from the tree and hit the gutter on the garage, pulling a good-sized section right off of the structure. It even damaged some of the shingles on the roof. Of course, the rain continued to fall and water began to damage the garage as well. Luckily the owners called SERVPRO® and the loss was taken care of.

Image shows the muck buildup in the crawl space of the client's home.

Sewage in Crawlspace

The gunk in this photo is a stomach-turning mix of debris you would normally find in a crawlspace and sewage that backed up into space. Damage like this is something that property owners should call in professionals for. These spaces are hard to navigate without proper training and this type of damage is dangerous to deal with if you don’t have the right protective equipment.

Don’t deal with a sewage mess on your own if you don’t need to. Call SERVPRO® for the cleanup and restoration.

The image shown here is an example of just how bad garage fired can get and all of the damage they can cause. The garage door here is discolored from the fire and soot. You can also see that the trim around the garage is burnt as well. While we were happy to help with the cleaning and restoration of the property, this is sadly not the first or last time we will be called out for a job like this.

Garages can be dangerous places without fires, so please take caution and stay safe!

Flooded floor - Water coming up from the sump pump in the basement

Sump-Pump Nightmare

There are no words to describe the frustration of sump pump problems. Taking care of them is a necessity, and doing it correctly and fast is important, especially in extreme cases like the one shown above. In these types of situations, you can always contact SERVPRO® for the cleanup and restoration.

Dark colored mold growth in the lower corner of two walls and on the concrete floor of an empty room

Left Untouched - Drywall Mold

We see a lot of mold in our line of work. The sad thing is that a majority of mold comes from either not knowing that moisture is there or from houses buildings being left empty. The image here is a result of the latter rather than the former. This building left empty ended up having mold growth in the drywall that required professional attention.

Of course, it’s nobody’s fault, these things just happen sometimes. Just make sure you call in professionals who will know how to alleviate the problem.

There is a light layer of mold growing on the white siding of a house.

Siding Mold

It’s hard to imagine that the outside of your house needs to be cleaned almost as regularly as the inside. It does though, and if you don’t take care of it you could end up with an issue like the one pictured here. The last thing you want is to end up having to replace the siding on your home because mold growths got out of control.

dusty and rusted ceiling vent

Clean Your Vents

There is no limit to what damage unclean vents can do. Taking the time to clean your vents regularly is the best way to avoid issues, but if you can’t find the time or don’t know what to look for you should call in a professional. Clean vents help you avoid breathing issues from dust or mold, and it helps to prevent accidental fires.

Sewage Backup

You can sum up a sewage backup by simply saying that it’s intrusive and it smells.

Sewage is one of the last things you want in your house, but sometimes that is out of your control. So if you do experience a sewage backup, reach out to SERVPRO® for the cleaning and restoration of your… stinky situation

Pipe Break In Basement

These kinds of tiles can be frustrating due to them being so easily damaged. However, in this situation, these tiles made things a bit easier. There was a pipe burst in the basement ceiling, and while there was a little bit of damage it was easier to get to the broken pipe because it was easier to access. Easier access means faster repairs, and that’s something everyone can be happy about!

Smoke Damage

Smoke and soot will go just about anywhere. When there was a grease fire in the kitchen of this client’s house, the soot-covered every inch of the house - including the bathtub! So they called us, and we sent a team out to get things cleaned up. Good thing they did too because it’s hard to get clean in the shower when the tub is a mess.

Tub Mold

When you bathe, you want the shower/tub in which you’re cleaning yourself in to be clean. However, if a home is left untouched for a while (whether because it’s for sale or it’s not a full-time home) leftover water can cause mold to form. This is the kind of thing that you can avoid by making sure that leaks are managed and that any water is dried up before you leave the home for long periods of time. It may seem like busywork, but it’s less work than getting mold cleaned up.

Splitsville

This image may look silly among all the other images we post, but it fits right in. This split tree limb is an example of the type of tree damage that can cause all kinds of damage and loss to a home/business. This particular broken limb left an opening in a home during a storm that let in water. So not only was the building damaged from the limb, there was structural and content water damage, too. Watch the trees around your home or business. If it looks like there’s a branch that could fall onto or into the building, get the branch or the tree removed.

It’s better to be safe than sorry.

Mold Under AC

Air conditioners are meant to keep you comfortable when the heat and humidity get to be too much (and both have definitely been an issue here in Central Illinois this year). However, when condensation builds up and goes unnoticed, you can end up with a good amount of mold in areas around the AC. Be sure to keep an eye out for any spots that might be growing. Catching mold early can make it easier to take care of it!

Fire Damage

There’s no denying that fire damage is an ugly sight. Nobody wants a chared stove or a scorched cupboard. So when you are cooking or using candles it is important to follow safety precautions. They may seem like a mundane waste of time while you do them, but it’s better to do it now and be safe later than to end up with fire damage to your home (or business).

Basement Flood

It’s true. When there is a flood in a building, the floors are what you’ll usually notice are damaged. However, if you look at the photo here, you can see some very clear damage to the walls as well that is trickling down from the upstairs floor, which is the ceiling to the basement. You have to be sure to look for damage everywhere you can. If you think you may have missed something, contact your local SERVPRO®. Our techs are trained to know where to look, and they won’t disappoint.

Weathering Fail

Weatherising is a common practice for people who leave their homes for the winter. As shown here, toilets need to be weatherized to prevent seasonal damage, especially when there is nobody to maintain the appliance. However, what is shown here is what happens when even the most prepared people fall victim to the weather. Lucky for this family, SERVPRO® has plenty of experience cleaning and restoring mold-damaged property. We are always Here to Help®.

Shed Damage

Don’t think that we only get calls about homes or businesses. There have been plenty of times that we have seen jobs for external structures as well. When structures like sheds fall we take the call. If it makes sense for us to restore the property, we will do our best to make it happen!

Look Up... There's Mold!

It’s never a fun moment when you get a leak in your ceiling. It’s especially frustrating though when the leak goes unnoticed long enough to form mold. When that happens you can contact your local SERVPRO® to help fix the mold issue.

A Smell Worse Than Burnt Popcorn

Everyone knows the smell of burnt plastic. That was the smell that coupled with the fire damage shown here. The funny part is that the fire didn’t come from the inside of the microwave, it came from a pan below the microwave. Our team came in to clean up the smoke damage and get the burnt plastic smell out of the kitchen.

Mold and Water Damage Under Toilet

Toilets leak and sometimes people miss the bowl. Either way, there is always a chance for water damage to happen around the porcelain throne. The image shown here is from a job with just that issue. So keep an eye out. If you see your bathroom tile looking really dingy around the toilet, get it checked or check it yourself. If there’s water or mold damage, call SERVPRO® to help with the cleanup!

There’s a Branch in the Roof!

It doesn’t look like much, but a hole this size can let in more than enough water and other messy materials to cause some real damage. If you have an attic, there is sure to be some damage up there. If you don’t have an attic, be ready to have some residual damage in whatever room is below this spot.

If you see that a tree or other debris has fallen on your house please don’t wait to check if there is any damage. The speed at which you fix things can make all the difference!

Small Hole. Big Mess.

Any time of year, there can be a pipe burst. You never know what will cause it, but when it happens, it doesn’t matter how big the hole is. You need to get it taken care of. Small holes can look harmless, but if left untouched, they can get worse and cause much more damage than expected.

Fire Damage Before & After

There was a home that we were called out to that had some fire damage. There were smoke and soot that affected a good amount of the contents of the house and the majority of the surfaces inside the house. Our teams love a challenge, and cleaning smoke and soot off of ceilings is definitely one. In the image above, you can see just how much effort is put into cleaning. The section that has already been tackled is white again, contrasting greatly from the section that is still gray and dirty.

SERVPRO® is always happy to help with a fire damaged building. It’s what we do!

From the Ground Up

We’re sure you get a little tired about hearing about the risks of mold. However, it is important to see exactly what can happen if you don’t take mold issues seriously. The photo here is from a neglected basement. This is just one of the sections that had mold growing. Our teams came out, did an estimate, and got to work as quickly as we could. This was an extreme case and they knew that the sooner the problem was resolved the sooner everyone’s health would be out of danger.

Monitor your homes. Keep an eye out so that you don’t find yourself in a similar situation to this one.

The Real Monster In The Basement

Mold thrives in dark, humid areas. This makes basements the perfect dwelling for them. Any type of mold from harmless to dangerous can be found in any building type - home and business alike. So it is important to make sure that you’re checking those cold dark spaces for mold. If you do happen to have mold, you need to reach out to professionals to get it taken care of. You don’t want to risk your personal property getting damaged or risk issues for your family’s or employees’ health. SERVPRO® teams are trained in mold remediation and they are happy to help get your home or business back to normal.

What Is Under Your Washer & Dryer?

Clothing washers and dryers are some of the few appliances that never really move once they’ve been placed. Because of this, it is really easy for dust, mold, and other grime to build up underneath the machines. While this may not seem like an issue, excess dust can build up and become a fire hazard, and mold in large amounts can cause health issues to those living in the building. It is important to check behind and underneath washers and dryers whenever the opportunity presents itself.

If you happen to find something unsettling or something you can’t handle on your own, reach out to your local SERVPRO® professionals. We are Here to Help®!

Guess the Pest

Just kidding. We won’t make you guess; because the answer is TERMITES.

Not a pretty word. Not a pretty bug. Not a pretty mess.

These little bugs can be a death sentence for any building that they can chomp down on. While we may not be able to exterminate the little pests, we certainly have the ability to help with the mess and the damage they leave behind when they go. Our heroes are Here to Help® with a wide variety of damages. This wasn’t the first and will not be the last time we are called for pest-related damages.

Burn House Training

Training is an important part of any job. However, it becomes the most important thing when the job you do can be the difference between life and death. That is why we jumped at the opportunity to help with the training done by the Central Illinois Fire Investigation Association (CIFIA). We constructed five small burn houses to help train the Central Illinois Fire Professionals, and those of us who could attend the training day got to go and watch.

We are so happy that we got the opportunity and that the CIFIA chose us to help them out! We’re happy that they know that we’re always Here to Help®.

MOLD

Mold is not just an issue for damp residential basements. Mold can appear in any spot that isn’t dry or well ventilated. This means residential buildings aren’t the only ones at risk. Commercial buildings are just as likely to experience it. Of course, this doesn’t mean that commercial buildings/businesses that end up with mold are poorly maintained. It takes something as simple as a big storm or excess humidity to cause this issue.

SERVPRO® teams are specially trained on how to handle mold and are not at all afraid of a challenge.

Burst Pipes - The Ugly Truth

Now that the weather is warming up, it seems like the extreme freezing temperatures are just a distant memory. However, it is important to remember just how rough Central Illinois winters can be on a building, especially when it comes to the pipes. The attached image shows exactly what can happen to water pipes when a home or business owner is not prepared, and it isn’t a pretty picture. The pipe here literally split, leaving a huge opening for water to flow out. Not only does something like this call for repairs to the source, but to every affected area around it.

Luckily, if you fail to plan for the cold or if your plan fails, you can always get a hold of SERVPRO® to help make it "Like it never even happened."

Dryer Fire

A dryer’s job is to dry your clothes - not fry your clothes. The nightmare-inducing image shown here is that of a dryer which did just that, causing damage not only to the machine but to the area around the machine as well. When all of this happened, the client called us because they needed help getting fire mess cleaned up and the other affected areas (like the wall) fixed up as well. Our SERVPRO® Heroes gladly came in and got the job done.

Water Damage to Ceiling

When the snow melts, it turns to water. When this water builds it can tear up the walls an ceilings of a building. This particular image shows damages to a church building that had suffered after the tough winter we had here in Central Illinois. It is damage like this that we here at SERVPRO® are more than happy to come and restore for those who decide to call on us.

Wall Deep Cleaning

Sometimes buildings are allowed to accumulate a certain level of grime. Floors and walls become caked with hard to clean filth. When this happens, you can call SERVPRO® and our cleaning teams will be more than up to the task of cleaning whatever is stained. As you can see in this photo, the difference is astounding.

Mattress Cleaning After Fire Damage

Mattresses are difficult to live without and pretty costly to replace. When you experience damages from water or fire, you shouldn’t always have to worry about replacing your mattress. SERVPRO® can help by cleaning damage from water issues or from smoke and soot. The mattress pictured here suffered from soot damage and you can see a clear difference in what it looked like before and after our cleaning crew took care of it. You can sleep soundly knowing that we are Here to Help®.

When Vehicles & Buildings Collide

The last thing anyone expects is for a four-wheeled machine to come bursting through the front of your home or business. Even if there’s nobody inside the building, it can be one of the most dangerous situations. The picture here is of the damage from that exact situation that occurred at a post office. The front of the building all but collapsed and they called in our SERVPRO® Heroes to clean and restore the damage. When something as important as mail is involved, it is important to get the job done as soon as possible, and they called us just in time!

Mold: It Can Hide Anywhere

Basements, attics, that spot behind your dresser that never gets any sunlight; Mold can be in any space with the correct mixture of moisture and temperature. The only trouble is, the longer it goes unnoticed, the more damage it is liable to cause.

The above photo shows a corner of mold in a crawl space that just couldn’t be seen or reached by the owner of the house. Our professionals came in and did what they do best, they found the mold, assessed the damage, and cleaned it out.

Even though mold can hide anywhere, it’s no match for our SERVPRO® Heroes.

Mold or No Mold?

While mold is sometimes immediately visible, there are some times when it’s in a place that is less than easy to access. If you can’t see it, it doesn’t mean that it isn’t there.

When you are faced with water damage or even if the humidity levels are higher than normal in your home or business, there is a possibility that mold will be present. If you aren’t sure, you can always contact SERVPRO®. Our teams are trained to be able to detect mold that you may not have known was there. Through mitigation and remediation, we can relieve you of your mold problems.

So why keep asking yourself if it is or isn’t mold when you could contact SERVPRO® professionals and have your questions answered and your issue resolved?

Fire Damage Cleanup

We can never say enough that fire damage is not restricted to directly affected areas. While you’re checking the space around whatever started the fire, it’s important to remember to check the rest of the house for smoke/soot damage. This image is a good example of the type of soot damage that can be left by a fire. Fire damage can leave a mess as bad as the thick layer pictured here or as light as a smoke smell throughout the rest of the building. Whatever the case, it’s best to stay as vigilant as possible after a fire.

Construction Cleanup

When you’ve had parts of your house fixed after damage occurs there is sometimes a mess left behind that your everyday vacuum can’t take care of. When we come in and do reconstruction on a home, you can depend on us to clean up after ourselves. Our teams understand that the stress doesn’t just come from the water or the fire, it comes from knowing that your home or business is not as clean as it was before the event happened. We do our best to make your recovery as stress-free as possible.

Pekin Library Cleanup

Recently in local news, it’s been known that the Pekin Library has finally opened its doors again. The library was shut down after a storm at the end of last year caused a flood and sewage backup that affected most of the building (an example of the damage is shown in the attached photo). Our teams were called in for the cleanup and after a couple of months not only cleaning the building but also taking care of the books inside it, the doors reopened and business is as usual!

For a good comparison, please go check out our before and after section. The difference will amaze you!

Commercial Cleaning at Kouri's Pub

At the end of 2018, we were called to take care of Kouri’s Pub in Pekin Illinois. The ceiling was in desperate need of deep cleaning and we were more than happy to come out and help (especially since our contents crew had a chance to work in a toasty warm area during the cold winter months).

For a fun look at the dramatic change from beginning to end, go check out our before and after picture section.
